North Bengal University, a sprawling Campus set amidst greenery and surrounded by hills, was established in 1962. The Examination Branch, which began its journey in the same year, has been responsible for conducting Examinations in six districts of North Bengal as well as Sikkim. Till the year 2007, the Branch not only conducted examinations for Undergraduate and Post Graduate students but also for those pursuing Medical, Engineering and Dental courses.

The Examination Branch on its journey experienced reforms in examination system. The Branch conducted examinations of multi-dimensional nature in a manual manner till 2001. However, the Examination Branch has always strived to keep itself updated. It brought about computerization in the examination system in the year 2002. Presently, the entire examination processes have been digitized breaking the age old mode of conducting examinations. All the documents of the examinees of the University have been digitally recorded with National Academic Depository (NAD), a scheme launched by the UGC. From the year 2000 we have introduced the concept of spot evaluation which has been largely responsible for the timely publication of the results. A major breakthrough came in the year 2018 when we launched our own website www.nbuexams.net and online process in the examination system. We have also launched the process of sending transcripts online to the candidates working abroad and willing to pursue higher degrees in foreign Universities. We began working on the necessary steps required to bring in reforms for facilitating e-governance in the Examination Branch.

At a time when COVID-19 Pandemic has caused innumerable disruptions we are glad that we have managed to conduct the examinations successfully. However, this would not have been possible without the collective efforts of the Officers and the Staff. Gratitude must also be extended to our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. Subiresh Bhattacharjee, who has wholeheartedly encouraged and supported us in all our endeavors.

The timely publication of results is our motto and maintaining the sanctity of the examination system remains a formidable challenge.
