The Department of Sanskrit started its journey at the Jalpaiguri Campus, University of North Bengal with Master of Arts programme in 2013. The Department offers four optional specializations in the groups of Veda, Vyakarana, Darsana and Kavya in the Post Graduate level. The Department organizes Seminar, Workshop and Lecture Programmes so as to enrich the students with curriculum beyond the Syllabus. Since inception the department has remained engaged in popularizing the Study of Sanskrit language and literature in the region. The Faculty Members regularly participate in different Faculty Development Program, Seminar, Workshop and Conference for improving their teaching skills in higher education. Simple Sanskrit speaking courses are regularly organized within and outside university campus to enable the learners speak in simple Sanskrit.
The learners will demonstrate the mastery of the Sanskrit language and literature by detailing the development and current practices of literary studies, rhetoric, criticism etc. They will have the ability to critique the dominant critical theories, methodologies and practices in the field, conduct research and teach effectively.
